The inner room is the place where we meet with God and he speaks to us

I Kings 22:24-25 & 2 Chron 2:23-24 “Then Zedekiah the son of Chenaanah came near and struck Micaiah on the cheek and said, ‘How did the Spirit of the Lord pass from me to speak to you?’ Micaiah said ‘Behold you shall see on that day when you enter an inner room to hide yourself.’”

The Hebrew word for ‘inner’ is Cheder (2315). It is used elsewhere in scripture to mean innermost, innermost parts and inside.

A good illustration of the use of the word is Proverbs 20:27 “The spirit of man is the lamp of the Lord, searching all the innermost (Cheder 2315) parts of his being.”

Another illustration of this from the Old Testament is the word Debir (1687). This is used for the innermost room of Solomon's temple, the Holy of Holies. It is derived from the root Debar (1696) which means to speak, so the inner sanctuary was a place of speaking.

John 4:24 “God is Spirit and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

It is the place of quiet where Jesus tells us to go when we pray.

Mt 6:6 “But you when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you.”

When you are in your inner room it is important to close the door to distractions around you. It is the place Jesus frequented when he often withdrew and went alone into the wilderness, or up a mountain to pray.
